Horseshoe Heights March 2026 Newsletter

Principal’s Message:

March has arrived, and with it comes a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many moments of connection, celebration, and learning that have filled our school community over the past month. It has truly been a vibrant stretch of winter activity, and we are grateful for the enthusiasm and support shown by our students, staff, and families.

Our month began with a fantastic turnout at our first Community Snow Tubing Event. Thank you to all the families who joined together on the hill. A special thank‑you to our Parent Council for organizing this event and helping bring our community together in such an enjoyable way. We also held our first Character Education Assembly, where students were recognized for demonstrating positive character traits in their daily interactions. Celebrating students for who they are, and how they treat others, is an important part of building a caring school culture, and we are proud of each recipient.

Another highlight was our very first Winter Carnaval. Students embraced the outdoors with energy and creativity. Their teamwork was on full display, making the day a memorable one for everyone involved. On Pancake Day, the school was filled with the delicious smell of breakfast and the spirit of community. Thank you to our dedicated parent volunteers who spent the morning flipping pancakes, and to all who generously donated pancake mix and syrup. Your contributions helped make the day special for our students.

We also joined in the excitement of the Olympics, celebrating with a spirited school-wide Team Canada Day. Students proudly wore red and white as we cheered on our athletes and learned about the values of perseverance, sportsmanship, and global community. Adding to the excitement, we had the privilege of welcoming the Orillia Winter Games, where students had the unique opportunity to watch wheelchair basketball and fencing. These experiences offered powerful lessons in athleticism, inclusion, and determination.

Our Pink Shirt Day Assembly was another meaningful moment this month. Together, we reflected on the importance of kindness and the impact of small, everyday actions to “sprinkle kindness” around our school. Students left with a renewed sense of responsibility to uplift one another.

Finally, we were thrilled to reveal our Staff Masked Readers as part of our school-wide read‑a‑thon. The excitement and curiosity leading up to the big reveal added a fun twist to our literacy celebrations and helped spark even more enthusiasm for reading as well as brought out detective skills around the school as students tried to determine who each reader was.

As we move into March, we look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to create opportunities for learning, joy, and connection. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such an integral part of our school community.

Early Pick-Ups:

We’ve seen an increase in early pickups, which can cause disruptions to classroom learning. Whenever possible, we ask families to schedule appointments outside of the school day so students can fully participate in the great learning happening at Horseshoe Heights.

If an early pickup is unavoidable, please send a note ahead of time. This allows us to have your child ready at the office and helps us avoid calling into classrooms during instructional time.

Thank you for helping us keep our learning environment calm and focused.
